3 reasons why you should cook at home instead of eating out

Updated: Oct 7, 2022

Picture it. Its 8 pm and you have just gotten home from a long day of work and before you can even think, your stomach is already thinking for you. You're tired and your stomach is grumbling and BAM! Next thing you know, you're in the shower ordering something off of Doordash, Grubhub, or Uber eats.

I used to dread coming home after work or school and having to cook, until I found ways to make cooking at home more enjoyable for me. I also picked up some skills along the way that made my cooking taste better than anything I could have eating out. Here are 3 reasons why cooking at home is better than eating out.

1. You can make pretty much anything your heart desires

As long as you have a couple of pans, a pot, and an air fryer/oven, you can pretty much make anything. Tik tok helped me so much when it came to recipes. I have tried soooo many, I can't even tell you which one is my favorite. My favorite page to get recipes from is Kimmy's Kreations. She makes everything easy to understand and she has extended videos on her Instagram and Youtube pages. I have made my own recipes as well.

2. You can save over $70 every month

Personally, I have saved over $100 a month buying groceries instead of eating out. When I lived on campus, I ordered so much food because we did not have kitchens. When I moved into my own apartment, I was stuck in the same cycle because at that point, it was all I knew. Once I started going to Walmart, I realized I could get better deals and more food than I was getting on Uber Eats or Doordash. Also, all of those subscriptions start to add up at the end of the month.

3. You eat healthier

The portions at restaurants are extreme and unhealthy. If you have eaten out before you know that each meal at a restaurant can be a whole day's worth of calories. When you are making food at home you can control your portion size and how much nutrients you are getting from every meal.

I fell in love with spinach during the pandemic and now it is my go to side veggie. When I cook it, I usually saute onions, garlic, and green peppers before adding the spinach.
